Dear Varla

My company makes it nearly impossible to get my payroll direct-deposited into my bank account, even though they’re a local ‘conglomerate.’ Not only that, but my paper checks don’t always have the same company’s name on them.

What should I do?

Dear Directly,

I worked a hard living cleaning houses and baking cakes for creepin on 60 years, and even now in “retirement” I’m taking care of my kids’ kids, and even some of the great-grand youngins too. The only thing I’ve ever had directly deposited without requiring a trip to town is my social security, and it was a nice lady at the benefit office who helped me with that.

I’m afraid I don’t have much advice on how to get your employer to change, but it does strike me as odd that a business in today’s world won’t do that for you. I think even my grandboy Kenny gets his money that way, and he works out Blaine. In all my years I’ve learned that nothin’ comes easy, but when folks are making things deliberately harder than they need to be… well, honey they’re a hidin’ something. Surely you can find yee something better. Is the Sundry Store hiring?

Hope that helps!

Now that’s a tip you can take to the bank.
