Dear Varla,
My grandkids are always running around outside. I’m thankful that they aren’t spending a lot of time on whizbang internet toys, but great day in the morning their little feet get filthy.
How on earth do I get them clean without soaking for an hour?

Dear Scrubbin’,
My kids and grandkids have had intermittent cases of Pic-Pac feet themselves, so I’m happy to help you out on this one. The soaking approach is tried and true, but time is a limited resource for us mamaws. Not to mention how they can turn into hellions once you start scrubbing the feet. Now, back in the day I would always throw a bit of washing soda, a cap full of vinegar, warm water, and Dawn together. Dip a big old rag in that mixture, and you’ve got yourself one fine concoction.
These days, I keep it a bit simpler and pare down the recipe to create a paste from Dawn, a bit of skincare astringent, and makeup remover. Let that set on those little goblin feet soles for half a minute, spray it off with warm water, towel dry, and honey, you got yourself a winner. My late husband served in the Navy, and so he taught me a few nautical rope knots. When my youngins have clean feet, I fix their shoes on in a fashion that they’ve yet to figure out how to kick off.
Now that’s a tip you can take to the bank.
